ANNUAL TOURNAMENT PLAN 2024/25

Why Tournament Play?

Local and travel tournaments are wonderful opportunities, if approached correctly, for athletes, parents, and coaches to bond and develop a strong team culture.  This culture development can permeate into success on the field of play as well as long lasting unity and roster continuity.

Club events, where multiple teams from PCSC attend a singular event, facilitate an even broader sense of club unity.  At such events, directors can support multiple teams and coaches, coaches can interact professionally and personally with their colleagues, teams can cheer on other club teams, and parents can engage with others they don’t regularly see within our organization.

Athletes love it because they get to spend extra time with their teammates outside of training or match play. They get to spend time at the hotel, on the field while waiting for their game, shopping, or at a restaurant for lunch or dinner. They can also meet new friends from other clubs during competition, or who may be staying in the same hotel. The opportunity to compete against new teams and represent our Club and community also generates excitement beyond that found in league games.

Another positive aspect of traveling to tournaments is that coaches can evaluate team play and make adjustments between games, getting to see players play in different positions and how they perform in certain situations. Tournaments help a coach analyze their team’s performance and allow for tactical evaluation in a one weekend window.

For younger teams, travel tournaments are scheduled in state or close by. As athletes develop within the sport and progress in their commitment, the number of events, and the travel distance, will also progress to broaden the teams’ horizons and expose the athletes to new challenges.  New Paragraph
